Lake Powell Fishing Report for October 16 and 17, 2022

October 16 – Was good. caught 20. Water temp is still 70 – 72 degrees. The stripers we caught were spitting up 2″, what looked like gizzard shad. We were fishing 40 feet down to start and as the day went on dropped the anchovies down 70 to 80 feet and caught some bigger ones. WE caught around 4 small stripers, almost big enough to keep. I think the smaller ones are better eating. People ask if stripers are good to eat. The answer is definitely yes.

October 17 – After the low pressure center went through fishing took a bit of a dive. We caught 15  but missed that many. We had 2 really heavy stripers break the line. Around 1:30 the striper bite really slowed down so went looking for Small mouth bass. Caught 6 and brought home 2. We missed a few of those also. We had fun and did pretty well for a half day trip. I heard another fisherman say they were knocking them dead on top water last week. Hopefully they will be still hitting top water bait by the weekend. I well be out there trying my luck.
