Fishing is still going well. Not as good as it has been because of the full moon. The area we are fishing in has a lot of gizzard shad. The fish can see them at night with the moon shining above. The bites will be better by mid-day and afternoon. We have been going out in the morning at sunrise and still catching stripers and some smallmouth bass. We are using frozen anchovies. It is important to do some chumming every once in a while. That will help get the stripers interested in your bait. We dropped our bait down anywhere from 30 feet to 70 feet then played with the bait raising it or lowering it. sometimes moving the bait gets the fish interested. A trick that works a lot of the time is dropping the anchovies down about 5 feet after it has been at one level for 5 to 10 minutes. On Oct. 8th and 9th, we caught 35+ stripers and a few big-channel catfish. On Oct. 10th we caught 32 stripers and a few cats. One striper went 7#’s + and the catfish went 8 1/2 #s. On Tuesday the morning after the moon was full, we only caught 9 fish, 8 stripers, and one catfish. Three of the stripers were 4 to 5 pounds. The lake temperature is 72 to 73 degrees in the morning and the air temp is a cool 57 to 58 degrees. Until the moon phase wanes some more it would probably be best to fish mid-morning to late afternoon. I heard another fisherman says they did really well fishing with a topwater bait.
