Lake Powell Fishing Report April 9, 2023

It has been cold and windy up until Wednesday. It was still cold in the morning but doable. Friday was ok weather and Saturday was BEAUTIFUL! I believe winter is over. We may have one or two more bad weather days creep in somewhere but the weather is finally looking good. We have been trolling to catch the stripers in the back of canyons in shallow water 20 to 30 feet. The number we are catching are not the numbers we will see in a little while. We have been catching anywhere from 6 to 26 in a half day since the last week in March. They are not biting frozen anchovies yet. At least not what we have found. We are trolling with deep divers called bandits, Lures that are blueish on top with yellow down the sides. The fish are healthy and the females are full of eggs. The water temperature has been 46 to 52 degrees. That’s pretty cold. The backs of canyons are 52 degrees and that is where the stripers are right now. I am hoping that with the warmer weather we are having in the next week that it will get the stripers to start biting anchovies. This last week we have been catching 20 to 26 fish in a half day. We have tried to find the small mouth but with no luck. Water temperature is everything. I believe that when the water temperature gets to 54 to 57 the small mouth will start biting, coming up looking for places to make beds. Time slots to book trips with us are filling up fast so give us a call and lets go fishing!! Call Mike at 928-660-1020 or 928-645-5122.
